A practice and a course. One home for both.

Mission

Rudi Lion is a marriage and family therapist in Santa Barbara with a course for couples and families on talking about money. We helped shape the course and gave it its look, then built her a new site where the practice and the course live together.

Challenge

The course first went live on the Squarespace site we built for her, sold as one piece. Then she wanted it sold a module at a time, a workbook students could fill in as they watched, a quiz that kept the emails it asked for, and counseling pages that didn't leave a reader stranded at the end.

Process

We designed, built and host a new site for both. Every counseling page now ends with an easy first step, the course sells whole or by module through her own Stripe account, the lessons play securely, and the workbook lives inside each lesson, saving answers as students type. Her students came across with the course when the new site went live.

Everything we made.

  1. Course branding

Three directions for the course's look, worked up in warm creams, sage, peach and clay. That look runs through the workbook and the new site.

  2. Script writing

The preamble and all five module scripts, shaped and finalized with Rudi before filming began.

  3. Workbook design

A fillable course workbook designed in the course's look, later split into a full-course edition and one for each of the first four modules once the course sold by module.

  4. Photography

A portrait session in her Santa Barbara office. The portraits and the office shots now lead her site.

  5. First website

Her first site with us, on Squarespace, launched the course with its own course page, a member login and her money quiz.

  6. SEO

Titles, descriptions, headings, image descriptions and business details set across the first site, then built into the new one from the start, with a sitemap and structured data for search.

  7. New website

A custom site we designed, built and host: an editorial layout for every counseling page, photo cards that lead readers on to the next topic, and a free consultation offer at the end of each one.

  8. Course platform

The course moved onto her own site: student accounts, Google sign-in, checkout through her own Stripe account for the whole course or a single module, and lessons that only play for the people who bought them.

  9. Workbook online

The workbook built into every lesson. Answers save as students type and turn into a filled-in PDF, and every buyer can download theirs.

  10. Money quiz

Her money communication quiz, rebuilt on the site so it finally keeps the emails it asks for, with a one-time discount for everyone who finishes.

  11. Online intake

Her paper intake questionnaire, turned into a form new clients fill in online and send straight to her.

  12. Outreach list

Financial planners, accountants, estate and family law attorneys and family offices across Santa Barbara County and nearby towns, every contact taken from the firm's own site.

Built in her own look.
